And the name of the city
from that time on will be:
THE LORD IS THERE.
Ezekiel 48:35
from that time on will be:
THE LORD IS THERE.
Ezekiel 48:35
What can matter more than God's presence?
Or, to put it another way: if God is present, what else matters?
Or, to put it another way: if God is present, what else matters?
If God is present, that is enough - in fact, that is more than enough.
And God's presence is the point of this many-chapters-long description of the temple and the priests and the sacrifices and the land and the gates and the city that brings the book of Ezekiel to a close. The description covers every detail and it seems to go on forever. And it finally reaches this concluding verse (48:35) - where we are told the name of the city: The Lord is there!
And the point, I think, is this: God, through the prophet, is describing his dwelling place. This is the place where God will be present.
And God's presence is ultimately all that matters.
Whatever the circumstances, whatever the setting, whatever the situation . . . whatever the problem . . . these are the questions that must be answered: Is God here? Is God with me? Is God present?
If the answer is "Yes," then nothing more needs to be said.
As I begin a new day, this single thought is my anchor: The Lord is here . . .
