If I had known beforehand that a specific event would be one of the highlights of my life, I would have paid more attention when it was happening.
Knowing that kind of thing ahead of time, however, is not always possible. Normally, we can identify the highlights only in retrospect. In any case, however, recognizing the highlights either beforehand or after the fact is pure gift. That we can identify the highlights at all is a miracle.
One of my life highlights happened in August of 1992. I had been invited to be the speaker for student week at Glorieta, a Baptist assembly near Santa Fe. I was a young seminary professor at the time.
It turned out to be a holy week, one of those times when God showed up - and I happened to be the guy who was standing up front when it happened.
